Getting to Orbita Spanish School on Lake Atitlan, Guatemala is a straightforward journey involving two main legs: from Guatemala City (GUA) to Antigua, and from Antigua to San Pedro La Laguna.

1. Getting to Antigua (from Guatemala City Airport, GUA)

The first step is traveling from La Aurora International Airport (GUA) to the city of Antigua.

Option A: Tourist Shuttle

These desks are typically located inside the airport after passport control. Shuttles are safe, easy, and staff often speak English. $20–$35 USD (approx. 1 hour)

Option B: Uber or Taxi

An alternative, comfortable option. Ensure the taxi fare is negotiated before departure. Approx. $30 USD (Uber)

2. Getting to San Pedro La Laguna (from Antigua)

From Antigua, you have two main tourist options to reach San Pedro La Laguna:

Option A: Direct Shuttle to San Pedro (All Land Route)

This route is often preferred for simplicity, as you are dropped directly in town.

Service: Take a tourist shuttle from Antigua directly to San Pedro La Laguna. Tickets can be purchased at any travel agency in Antigua.
Time & Cost: The shuttle takes 3–4 hours and costs between $16–$20 USD (Q120–Q150).

Option B: Shuttle to Panajachel + Boat (Scenic Route)

This route is slightly more complicated but offers scenic views of the lake by boat.

Antigua to Panajachel: Take a tourist shuttle from Antigua to Panajachel.
Time & Cost: 3 hours and $25 USD.

Panajachel to San Pedro: Walk down to the main dock (embarcadero) and take a public boat (lancha) to San Pedro La Laguna.
Time & Cost: 35 minutes and Q50 ($7 USD).

Private Transportation

We can organize a direct, private transportation service from Guatemala City Airport (GUA) straight to San Pedro La Laguna.

  • Rate for one person: Q900 / $120 USD
  • Additional Person: An additional person pays $20 USD extra (Maximum 2 additional people).

Directions to Orbita Spanish School

A. If you arrive by Private Transportation:

Your driver will drop you off directly at the door of the school, your host family’s house, your hotel, or your Airbnb.

B. If you arrive by Direct Shuttle to San Pedro La Laguna:

  • From the drop-off point, walk approximately 240 meters southwest (about 3 minutes).
  • Look for the Orbita Spanish School sign on the right side.
  • Our office is located 20 meters down a small alley on the left side, where you will see a small sign.

C. If you arrive by Shuttle to Panajachel + Boat (Scenic Route):

GUA to Antigua: Take a shuttle from the airport booth to Antigua. 1 hour


Antigua to Panajachel: Take a second shuttle from Antigua to Panajachel. ~$15 USD (3 hours)


Panajachel to San Pedro: Walk down to the dock, take a Lancha (public boat) to San Pedro La Laguna. ~$7 USD / Q50 (35 minutes)

 

📍 Directions from the San Pedro Dock:

  • Exit the boat and walk up the main street.’
  • Take your First Right.
  • Walk approximately 3 minutes and look for the yellow Orbita Spanish School sign on the right side.

Safety Warning: We do not recommend traveling by “Chicken Buses,” as they are not 100% safe.
